Does your site work in all browsers?
2 02 2007This is probably the biggest rookie mistake on the web. When people start designing websites be it in Frontpage, Dreamweaver or Notepad, they usually design based on how the page looks in Internet Explorer. Most people think that it doesn’t matter, but the following statistics may surprise you:

IE7=13%
IE6=42%
Firefox=31%
So, nearly a third of your potential customers don’t use IE! Another platform to note is the rise of Safari on the Mac. Over 2006 Apple took more market share and subsequently more and more people are viewing web pages on the Mac. This is possibly the most significant change in a while, as along with a different rendering engine behind the browser there are also different fonts to cope with.As site I find very useful is http://www.browsrcamp.com/ . This site allows you to feed in a web address and it will generate a JPG file of what it looks like on the Mac, thus saving you the expense of having a separate machine for testing Mac compatibility.At ThinkSynergy we always make sure our sites are designed to be compatible with all browsers on all platforms. It’s difficult enough to get your site up the rankings and viewed, the least we should do is make sure the people who get to see it are seeing it as it was designed!
