The question I get asked time and time again is “how do I get my site ranked #1 in Google?â€. The answer to this can be as simple or as complex as you like. The simple answer is set your sights low! For example, if you are an Audi dealership in Leeds you could aim to be searchable in Google by any of the following phrases:
“Audi dealer Leedsâ€
“Car dealer Leedsâ€
“Car dealer Yorkshireâ€
“Car dealer UKâ€
Now, to be number one for “Audi dealer Leeds†would be a lot easier to manage than “Car dealer UK†(or even “Audi dealer UKâ€), as you are competing with Audi dealers just within the Leeds area. As soon as you open up the scope to include the whole of the UK you are competing with the whole of the UK.
So, my advice would be to give some thought to your intended audience. If you really want to attract people in your area then include that as part of the search. It’s amazing how many people overlook that!
The second pointer would be to change the content. Once Google sees content going stale it gradually slips it down the rankings. If you update your content on a weekly (or more) basis you will find your rankings go up.
Thirdly (and lastly, for this article) you needs links… not just any links, but links from other relevant sites. This can be hard to get, as a lot of the time relevant sites with be competitors, but if you can get a handful of links (into your site) under your belt then you will see vast improvements in your rankings.
That is enough for now. I will publish more information on this soon, as to be honest I could write a book on it, but that is enough to get you going.
