123-reg.co.uk - warning!
27 01 2007First of all it takes a lot for me to post negative comments about another company, but I feel that my experience with 123-reg.co.uk over the past week justifies this post.
As you may know, we are in the process of porting over most of our domains to bigger and better servers. As part of this process we are migrating some domains on behalf of our customers, some who registered domains with various different companies. You would think that would be a simple process, yes?…. no! First of all I transferred the domain into 123-reg and logged into the control panel expecting to see the domain there. Ok, maybe I jumped the gun a little, so I waited 24 hours, still nothing. I filled out their support form asking what was happening… 24 hours later, nothing…. 2 days later, nothing… not it’s been 1 week, 4 support forms, 1 complaint form, and 2 emails… still nothing!!
Now the second chapter is even worse…. I thought, ok, let’s call them… looked on their website, 50p a minute!!!! Ok I thought, I’ll call their sister company, webfusion and ask to be transferred. The guy on support (Alex, 1st line) was exceptionally rude, and told me that the 50p a minute was for the “service” and that I only paid 9p extra for the privilege of the control panel!!! I pointed out that what’s the point of a control panel if it doesn’t work! Anyway, when I asked to speak to a manager he said refused and suggested I write a complaint (what, waste more time and money???).
So… (still with me here?)… I decided to “bite the bullet” and call said (0900, 50p/min) number!… Obviously work wouldn’t be too impressed so I tried on the mobile (even more expensive?)… it was blocked… so, I thought I would go home and call… when I got home (17:45) the lines were closed, they only open 9-5:30 Mon - Fri… fat lot of use to anyone not at home in those hours!
So, I am sitting at home on a Saturday morning still not in control of one of this domain… I can only guess what the outcome will be, I suspect I’ll simply hear nothing unless I make a run for home on a lunch hour and spend 50p a min on the phone to some monkey!
Rant over!
On a positive note, we have had excellent service from a company called domain monster (www.domainmonster.com) so if you are looking to register a domain and you want to administer it yourself then I would suggest these guys (or we can do it on your behalf)
