@Rarst: I know what you mean, but I guess it depends on how you work. For someone who is on the move lot, blogging from different PC's (or Mac's) as and when they can, then I guess keeping the drafts central is a good idea. If I was to blog from a single place most of the time then I don't think I would do it that way.

@Tertius: I like the idea of making drafts... why did I not think of that before?! Great idea!

I agree with scheduling.

Also, when I'm writing a post I normally get a load of ideas for other posts connected to what I'm writing. So I just open up a new tab by clicking "write" and type a title and click save.

So I have loads of drafts (not too many to be overwhelming) that I can just start working on that I've already spent time on in my head.

So sporadic posting once a week or twice a week (or once a month) can work too.

You make a good point there... sometimes you see blog posts where the blog owner obviously has very little to say but "needs" to make a post. Stepping away for a while to focus on other things (or just experience "life") can be just what the doctor ordered!

I agree with Rarst, future scheduling is a tool that I would miss if I did not have it.

I follow a very old fashioned way of writing posts. I still use a pencil and paper. This seems to work for me. Maybe it is the extra time it takes but often while I am working on one article, ideas for a couple of others just seem to pop into my head.

I do however think that if you really have nothing to blog about it is sometimes better to leave it for a while and then see how it goes from there. Your week off might just have been exactly what you needed.

My tips:
- keep list of ideas, it's important to have it in solid form. You can think that it is great idea worth remembering forever but it would poof in few minutes if not written down.
- schedule posts ahead (set them to future date in WordPress). If you are in good mood write few and schedule them to cover next few days (or weeks if you post less often).
