We have produced a property for sale site to assist in selling a property. The idea is to get the site to the top of the search engines for the term “roodepoort property” or “property for sale in Roodepoort”. Using our search engine optimisation techniques we should certainly get the site into the top ten quite soon.
Click here to see the Roodepoort Property site

For those who are interested, the property is located in Eagle Canyon Golf Estate in Honeydew, Roodepoort, just outside Johannesburg, South Africa.
Update (23/6/2008): The initial prognosis is good. We hit Google pretty quickly and now we have a co.za domain name for the site (roodepoort-property.co.za) we invisage rising up the ranks for searches of “roodepoort property” as the days go by. It is important to note that we are targeting google.co.za and not google.com or google.co.za as the intending audience is South African. This is vital when planning a sites Search Engine Optimisation.

Have you ever noticed that if you search for pages from your site in Google you see the words “Blog archive” splitting your title from your page description?

After looking through all the menus in the wp-admin screen I found that in actual fact you need to edit the header.php file to do this. The solution is simple, as follows:
1. Edit the header.php file (either in a text editor or in the presentation area of the admin menus)
Look for the following code:
<title><?php bloginfo(’name’); ?> <?php if ( is_single() ) { ?> » Blog Archive <?php } ?> <?php wp_title(); ?></title>
2. Remove the red section.
3. Upload the file, or click “update” if you did it in the wp-admin menu.
That gets rid of the “Blog Archive” text and Google should now show more of your title as there is more room!

Our first large scale community site is officially 1 year old today. We founded z4-forum.com on 14th June 2007 as a replacement for a previous community of BMW Z4 enthusiasts that disappeared overnight.
We started from scratch with no information, no database and more importantly no members. In just 12 months the site has grown to have over 71,000 posts, over 5000 topics and nearly 1200 members (from Harrogate to Hawaii!). The site is growing more rapidly than ever and the knowledge base we have built up is unbelievable.
Z4-forum is a prime example of how a web community can be built up, with a bit of effort and the right people involved.

Ever wondered how to tell when a page was last modified? Maybe you found a piece of information and you have no way of knowing if it was writted in 2002 or 2008.
Here’s a little trick for you. Paster the following line into your Address bar and press enter
:
javascript:alert(document.lastModified)
Easy as that!

Considering just how many computers I seem to work with nowadays I decided that I needed some form of portable storage. When I say portable I mean PORTABLE! The reason I say this is because unless it is easy to carry round I won’t do it. Human nature I guess.
I searched the Interweb and came up with a small device that was reasonably priced, the Super Talent 8Gb. What’s the catch, I thought? Seemingly none. Ok, so it is not quite as fast as some of the drives out there, but it is no slouch either.

You can see from the picture just how tiny this is. The other bonus of this device is it is waterproof and very robust. When I saw the picture I thought it looked a little flimsy. It’s not!
So far I have got it auto syncing with my Macbook Pro and also with my work laptop. My next step is to automount a truecrypt volume on both the Mac and the PC just in case it gets lost, but for now I am just impressed with it!
I will post again once I have had time to live with it for a while, but how can anyone not love such a cute little device? (ok, so I need to get out more!)
UPDATE: Amazon now sell these… here are the links
8GB Version (currently £15.50 as of 25/2/09)
4GB Version
EDIT: This article seems to have got a lot of interest through google. If anyone buys this please feel free to leave a comment and let me know your experience with it. I still love it!
